Welcome to the Ryan-Performance Tips Page Acrylic Cleaning and Care Tips
You are now the proud owner of a Windjammer Sport, and its main components is made of ACRYLIC. All of us at Ryan-Performance would like to offer these bits of wisdom to help you get the most out of your purchase.
    • Do not use just any cleaners with acrylic. Never, ever, use cleaners that containing ammonia. Windex, Fantastic or 409 will harm your Windjammer Sport acrylic. Only use products specifically formulated to clean acrylic such as Novus #1, Maguire's Mirror Glaze or our own acrylic cleaner, together with a soft cloth. Never use a dry cloth or your hand to clean your acrylic! This rubs the dirt and dust INTO the acrylic as much as it rubs it OFF. First, blow the dust or dirt off, or use water and a soft cloth to float the dirt off. Then use a recommended cleaner to complete the job. Note: a mild solution of dish detergent and warm water takes off stubborn dirt easily without harming the acrylic if you've run out of your professionally use product.

    • SHOCK! Dropping your acrylic can cause cracking: From large cracks that deal a death blow, to small chips that can turn into mortally wounding cracks. Acrylic is incredibly resilient, but flying off your car was not part of our stress testing...[: ) However, cracks in an acrylic sheet can be HALTED by drilling a small (1/8" diameter) hole at the end of the crack. This will keep your sheet in 1 piece while you contact us to buy a replacement.

    • Make others aware of the acrylic special handling requirements. Just as with any other fragile article you own, others should be properly instructed on its care and special handling.

    Acrylic Scratch Removal
In the event that, after taking meticulous steps to prevent it, your Windjammer Sport becomes scratched, HAVE NO FEAR. Fine scratches can be removed with a mild abrasive polish such as Novus #2, or Novus #3. Heavier scratches, such that you can feel with your fingernail, will require some elbow effort to remove with a bit of sanding and buffing. A series of grits (150,400,600) followed by a buffing wheel and available buffing compound, will restore the luster of your Windjammer Sport, not easy!

    Black Stainless Steel Bolts?
Paint the included Stainless Steel hardware in a less contrasting color for a more subtle appearance when install. If you want to do this simple modification; prior to installation, wash all bolts and washers with soap and warm water, dry up, and paint with spray paint. We suggested you use primer and a high-grade flat black spray paint for better results. Applying several paint coats will reduced pealing during installation. Avoid unnecessary paint into the threaded portion for a better fit. Washers only required to be painted on one side. Though a "Sharpie Pen" or equivalent will also do the trick. We have used the primer/ spray paint method describe above in our own units and the result were fantastic!

Don't want to unzip your back window...!
We have found a way to eliminate this tedious task. Unzipping and zipping the back rear window every time you put you top down can be tiring. An easy solution is: visit your favorite sporting goods store, specially during the summer time, and get one of those 2" "Funnoodels". These are the same devices used by kids on pool as flotation devices. Cut them to the appropriate length and use it to prevent Miata back window from creasing. There you have it! We have been using this method for some time now with great results!
